Valter D. Longo is an Italian-American biogerontologist and cell biologist known for his studies on the role of fasting and nutrient response genes on cellular protection aging and diseases and for proposing that longevity is regulated by similar genes and mechanisms in many eukaryotes.

Founder of L-Nutra and creator of the Fasting Mimicking Diet® (FMD®), Dr. Valter Longo is a professor at the USC Davis School of Gerontology with a joint appointment in the Department of Biological Sciences. He also serves as the director of the USC Longevity Institute—one of the most respected aging and gerontology research institutes in the world. It was there that Dr. Longo and his team developed the revolutionary nutrition program known as the Fasting Mimicking Diet (also known by some as the Longo Diet), after making a series of incredible discoveries that indicated specific eating approaches can promote stem cell-based rejuvenation—a process shown to contribute to increased lifespan in various animal tests.

The ground-breaking nutritional technologies—like the Fasting Mimicking Diet—discovered in the lab of Dr. Longo are the result of 25+ years of research, proof of concept testing, and preclinical and clinical trials to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of a periodic fast.
